Rainbow Hillside Adventure Park, China
This project transforms a natural hillside in China into a vibrant outdoor recreation destination for children and families
Project Overview
This project transforms a natural hillside in China into a vibrant outdoor recreation destination for children and families. Combining rainbow slides, enclosed tube slides, open play areas and modular recreational elements, the design creates an energetic environment that is visually engaging during both the day and evening.
Rather than treating the slope as a constraint, the project uses the existing terrain as its principal design resource. Attractions descend naturally along the hillside, reducing the need for complex elevated structures while giving visitors a more exciting and immersive experience.
Design Concept
The concept is inspired by the movement, color and optimism of a rainbow. Bold shades of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, pink and purple are applied across the sliding surfaces, play structures and landscape features. Viewed from a distance, these elements form a recognizable landmark within the surrounding greenery.
Color also helps organize the visitor experience. Different attractions are visually distinguished, allowing families to understand the layout easily while giving the park a playful and cohesive identity.
Attractions and Spatial Organization
The park contains several complementary activity zones. A broad grass-sliding area provides an open and visually dramatic experience, while parallel rainbow lanes accommodate multiple visitors at the same time. Enclosed tube slides offer a more adventurous journey, contrasting with the open slides beside them.
A central staircase separates uphill pedestrian circulation from downhill sliding activity. This creates a clear and efficient movement system: visitors return to the departure platform through a dedicated route without crossing the active lanes.
At the top of the hill, sheltered starting areas provide a defined point of arrival and preparation. At the bottom, generous runout zones allow riders to slow down before leaving the attraction. Open plazas and seating areas provide space for waiting, gathering and parental supervision.
Safety and User Experience
Safety is integrated into the spatial design through separated circulation routes, perimeter fencing, protected slide edges and clearly defined arrival zones. A tensile canopy provides shade near the departure platform, while the landscaped edges form a comfortable transition between the attractions and the wider park.
The combination of open and enclosed slides supports different ages and confidence levels. Wide multi-user lanes encourage shared experiences, while individual tube slides create a more private and thrilling ride.
Modular Design and Production
The project also incorporates colorful modular components manufactured through an injection-molding process. The lightweight hexagonal panels feature textured surfaces and interlocking edges, allowing them to be assembled into different configurations.
Their modular construction supports efficient production, transportation, installation and replacement. A broad color range enables the components to complement the park’s overall visual identity while offering flexibility for future expansion or reconfiguration.
Nighttime Identity
Integrated edge lighting outlines the slides, roof structures and key landscape boundaries after dark. Warm illumination contrasts with the saturated play surfaces, turning the hillside into a glowing recreational landmark.
The lighting serves both aesthetic and practical purposes: it strengthens the park’s nighttime identity, improves spatial legibility and extends the potential operating period into the evening.
Project Value
By combining hillside topography, modular construction and a strong color strategy, the project creates a destination that is memorable, accessible and operationally flexible. The design demonstrates how a conventional outdoor slide facility can become a distinctive family attraction through thoughtful circulation, landscape integration and day.
